Residents urged to help in cleaning up campaign

Residents of Bela-Bela are called upon to arrive in their numbers and join a cleaning campaign facilitated by the Good Green Deeds campaign.

Residents of Bela-Bela are called upon to arrive in their numbers and join a cleaning campaign facilitated by the Good Green Deeds campaign.

The campaign will take place on Tuesday 26 March, with volunteers starting to clean up at the Roodepoort farming area.

They will then proceed to the downtown traffic circle on Kwagga Road, and also to the newly- constructed bridge at the main entrance into the township

A plenary meeting took place at the Bela-Bela Municipal premises, with the presence of the municipal manager, Mike Makhubela and municipal spokesperson, Kabelo Mosito.

The campaign has attracted the interest of community-based activists, among them Community Youth Outreach Coordinator, Sisethu Dyiyaya, and also volunteers, Michal Rossouw, Hino va an Graan and Matshidiso Mokoena.

The local municipality will provide cleaning equipment, with local authority officials also expected to volunteer.

President Cyril Ramaphosa launched the campaign earlier this month in honour of the late Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa, a girlhood resident of Bela-Bela.

The launch took place at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape.

Molewa, who conceptualised the campaign, was regarded as the leading champion on climate change issues and the national conscience on climate change.
