Social workers are looking for a total of 148 parents regarding child care and protection investigations.

The Waterberg District of the department of social development has taken up two full pages of the mainstream press, mentioning by name the children whose parents are being sought for
investigation.

Kanakana Mantshimuli of the provincial department of social development said many of the children were in the care of their grandparents, while scores of others were at places of safety.

In the town of Mookgophong social workers are investigating an incident when an unnamed woman left a child in the care of a resident at the local taxi rank, with the pretext of going to the
rest rooms.

“To our knowledge, the child was given to Mailula Lebogang at Mookgophong taxi rank (by the unknown mother), who just disappeared,” the advertisement explained.

Social workers are also investigating the whereabouts of the father of a child who has since been left in the care of the grandmother in Mabula, outside of Bela-Bela.

The child’s mother has since passed away. Likewise, another child has been left under the care of the maternal aunt in Skilpadfontein east of Bela-Bela, following the death of the mother.

The identity of the biological father is unknown, according to the department.

All the other parents the department are investigating are from Mokopane and Lephalale.
