Bela-Bela’s multi-talented athlete Boikie “Run-Boikie-Run” Monareng returned home from a gruelling 533 km cycle tour on Thursday 30 May, to be elevated to celebrity status.
Youngsters from the Run-Boikie-Run Sports Development formed a guard-of-honour to receive their mentor and hero at Forever Resorts, together with several other cyclists who took part in the
endurance race.
The cycle tour pedalled off from Beit Bridge on the Zimbabwe-South Africa border on Tuesday 28 May.
On Saturday 1 June on the occasion of the Bela-Bela Mayoral Fun Run, Monareng attracted massive attention to himself, with many participants asking for selfies with him, while others took
pictures next to his bicycle.
The cycle tour was aimed at raising funds for the Run-Boikie-Run Sports Development initiative, with an eye on participation in the Comrades Marathon on Sunday 9 June.
The Beit Bridge cycle event started on Tuesday 28 May, involving 40 cyclists drawn from parts of the Limpopo cycling community.
“As much as I enjoyed the ride, it was difficult on the second leg from Musina to Polokwane,” he said.
