Downtown building reconstruction
The imposing but skeletal building in downtown Bela-Bela is going through a makeover.
The imposing but skeletal building in downtown Bela-Bela is going through a makeover.
According to a notice board at the entrance to the building on the corner of Chris Hani Street and Pretoria Street — formerly the premises for the Mango Bar and Chinese Restaurant — the
building was being reconstructed into an office block.
Bela-Bela municipal spokesperson, Kabelo Mosito, said the reconstruction of the building was a welcome development.
The abandoned building has been seen as an eyesore over a period of time by many in the town.
Just over a year ago Mosito had said the municipality was in continued engagements with the owner of the building.
On Monday 3 June he said the building had indeed been an anti-climax to the central business district, which boasts some of the finest architecture of yesteryear.
