Joyful and triumphant

Soccer players do the home region proud

A motorcade of four busloads and several private vehicles accompanied Modimolle Terrors Football Club to ultimate triumph in the Waterberg SAB Regional League inter-stream play-offs.

The contest for a place in the provincial leg of the play-offs was staged in Thabazimbi on Saturday 15 June.

The wonder-boys from Modimolle scored a record 10 goals over two matches, without conceding, to elevate themselves to the Limpopo provincial play-offs, where promotion into the nation’s second division ABC Motsepe League beckons.

He called on the players to remain focused.

“I really would caution them to up their game because the next level is far tougher than the lower league, which we won convincingly,” he said.

Mabotja said while a lot of work was put into scoring goals ahead of the Thabazimbi contest, the next step was to fine-tune the players’ mental strength.

Modimolle Terrors FC captain, Mamabolo Papo, said the team had the potential to win the provincial play-offs, because of the downright professionalism of Mabotja and his technical staff.

Team supporter and former goal-minder, Alfred Maremane, sent out the clarion call to the broader Modimolle community to close ranks and support the team in whatever way.

He sang praises to team owner, the businesswoman, Raisibe Pole-Nkosi, who invested in the development of youngsters.

Modimolle Terrors FC is one of the few teams owned by a woman in South Africa.

She is a local businesswoman heading a group of small- to medium-sized companies.
