The suspect who was allegedly found in possession of dagga worth a street value of R40 000 has been released with a fine of R3 000.

Ryan Alexandra Robson (30) was also sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment each on two counts of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court suspended the assault convictions for five years, during the trial proceedings on Friday 12 July.

There was drama all the way during Robson’s arrest — initially for a case of assault — when investigators stumbled into sachets and bagsful of dagga at a street value of R40 000.

At the time Bela-Bela police spokesperson, Sergeant Frans Maponya, said Ryan Alexandra Robson (30) was arrested on a smallholding at Noodhulp outside Bela-Bela.

He said initially a complainant had opened a case of assault against him.
