National accolades for The BEAT and Die Pos/The Post family

Personnel from both The BEAT and Die Pos/The Post team emerged with their proverbial tails up from the Forum of Community Journalists Excellence Awards.

Graphic designer Lesley Barnard and TK Mashaba (top picture) with the award and one of the front page pictures for Best Front Page (corporate-owned free newspaper). In the middle picture is Jurgens Tubb from MHI Attorneys and Johnny Masilela, second runner-up in the Best Columnist of the Year category. Graphic designs by Lesley Barnard, backed up by pictures and wording from colleagues, were declared third best of the Best Front Page category (corporate-owned free newspaper).

Mzamane Ringane and Lizzy Bapela were particularly hands-on during the gathering of the images, used to compose the front page with the heading, “Girlhood First Lady”.

The “Girlhood First Lady” front page was also part of the package.

TK Mashaba took both the old and new picture of a rehabilitated drug addict, for the front page with the heading “Saved from nyaope”.

Ronel van Jaarsveld from Die Pos/The Post was among 15 finalists in the coveted Journalist of the Year Award.

The BEAT editor, Johnny Masilela, came up third in the Best Columnist of the Year category, for a regular slot in Die Pos/The Post.

Die Pos/The Post editor, Keina Swart, was a finalist in the latter category, as well as in the category for editorial comment.

Die Pos/The Post was the runner-up in the category of Newspaper of the Year (corporate-owned newspapers with a circulation of more than 5 000).

The awards were unveiled during a gala dinner held at Leriba Hotel and Spa in Centurion on Friday 19 July.
