Learners at Hector Peterson Primary School received messages of encouragement to stay in class on Tuesday, 3 September, when the local Makubjenjalo Arts Foundation visited as part of ploughing back into the community.
The organisation visited the school in the company of ward councillor Rufus Magoro to donate sanitary products to girl learners, and most importantly to share messages of support.
Makubenjalo Arts Foundation director, Tebogo “Mlaza” Ntsendwana, said they will also be launching other community-driven projects, with the focus on the less fortunate in the local community.
“We saw the need to begin at the school because that is where you find a large portion of the community,” he said.
Councillor Magoro commended the organisation for playing a crucial role in removing children from the streets, and proving them with a home that continues to shape them both academically and
creatively.
The ward councillor also urged learners to focus on their studies, so that they can grow to become successful members of the broader community.
“We may come from different experiences and backgrounds, but with education as a tool, we can be able to change our situations for the better,” he said.
School Governing Body (SGB) chairperson, Gabriel Lets, extended his gratitude to the organisation for putting the needs of a girl-child first.
“We thank you for the great work that you are doing in the community. You are laying a good foundation for these young ones, as they will be encouraged to walk the same path when they grow older,” he said.
Foundation phase HOD, Maphuti Dikgale, called for the involvement of parents and the community at large, in addressing the issues affecting the learners.
