Sunday 24 November was a joyous day as the residents of Extension 13 in Modimolle received their title deeds, handed over by the Deputy Minister in Human Settlement, Water and Sanitation Pam Tshwete.

For pensioner Johanna Mathe, Christmas came early after her house was fully furnished, courtesy of a Good Samaritan, Nkateko Mabunda, who is the director of Mikateko Trading Enterprise.

Mabunda, who hails from Ngove Village in the Giyani Municipality, partnered with the government to turn Mathe’s dream of owning a proper house into a reality.

The house was built by the government, with Mathe being among several hundreds of beneficiaries the RDP houses at Extension 13.

On top of that, all other residents who attended the event were spoilt with food parcels and blankets provided by Gift of the Givers, a Non-Governmental Organisation known worldwide.

The Deputy Minister was accompanied by among other leaders, Limpopo MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) Basikopo Makamu and Modimolle Mayor Marlene Van Staden.

Deputy Minister Tshwete said the government would ensure that every South African lives in a proper house.

“In addressing the challenges of the backlog, we are giving out funds to all provinces as the national government, and we are saying to all the MEC’s that the money must be used,” she said.

Tshwete said the government wants to ensure that there is no money that is returned to National Treasury, but it must instead be used to address the issues faced by South Africans within
various communities.

She also pleaded with members of the community to use water sparingly.

Modimolle Live Band TRV and Rumba Kwasa dancer Nyawa entertained the audience during the event.
