Big dreams for Barcelona FC

The newly-promoted team, Barcelona FC of Mookgophong, has set big goals ahead of the 2018/19 Waterberg SAB Regional League season.

The newly-promoted team, Barcelona FC of Mookgophong, has set big goals ahead of the 2018/19 Waterberg SAB Regional League season.

The team, which has been playing independent tournaments and competitions since it was established in 1992, has now gained promotion into the SAFA third-tier level.

Barcelona FC affiliated in the Modimolle-Mookgophong LFA for the first time last season, and gained promotion after winning the title.

Team manager, Martin Mothye, said creating an environment where players can freely engage with management, has helped the team remain solid.

“This is the result of hardwork and the commitment by the players and everyone involved in the team,” he said.

Mothye said it was the responsibility of the local teams to nurture and develop local talent in and around the Waterberg region.

He said at the end of the new season, they want to be in the playoffs, battling to represent the region at the provincial playoffs.

Barcelona has also achieved gender equality by roping in a female assistant manager, Johanna Monyanane, who will be helping in the day to day running of the team.

Apart from the SAB League team, Barcelona FC will also register its ladies football club when the new season commences.
