An alleged house robber took on more than he bargained for after he was cornered and arrested, during a Bela-Bela house-breaking attempt in the early hours of Wednesday 20 June.

The suspect was caught during a joint operation between the Bela-Bela Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Galvin Security, with police re-inforcements arriving in time to arrest the man.

Bela-Bela SAPS Detectives Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Abel Phetla, said the suspect was expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Friday 22 June, on charges of housebreaking and attempted theft.

He said the suspect was a fugitive from the law, who failed to appear in court for a previous charge of theft of a gass cylinder at the downtown Build-It store.

His co-accused has since been convicted.

Other information suggest the suspect tried to break into an old lady’s house, who alerted the CPF and security company.

It was alleged the suspect was spotted scaling the perimeter wall of the said house, where he then broke a window and hid in the house.

The suspect was found hiding under a couch.
