A soccer team of oldies all the way from Namibia, Okahao Veterans FC, emerged the winners of an inter-regional tournament, scooping prizemoney of R7 200.
The Namibians triumphed over Seabe Masters FC from Mpumalanga, at a scoreline of 3-1.
The tournament was played at the Bela-Bela High School Stadium on Saturday 21 July.
Okahao Veterans FC team manager, Messiah Fiasco, was the main organiser of the tournament.
Participating teams agreed, during preparations for the tournament, that the winning team should identify a needy school of their choice, and donate all the proceeds towards the development of the learners.
The result was obviously that a school somewhere in Namibia stood to receive the amount of R7 200.
The amount was raised after all participating teams each paid a registration fee of R1 800 ahead of the commencement of the tournament.
Okahao Veterans FC senior member, Jose Karlos, said the team was formed in 2001, with the objective to honour former South African President Nelson Mandela, and his Namibian counterpart and liberation war leader, Sam Nujoma.
He said that was the reason why the tournament was held during Mandela Month.
In the first match, Okahao Veterans FC won 2-1 against PI Drum FC from Vingerkraal.
Seabe Masters FC played against Spa Park Legends FC from Bela-Bela, with the former beating the locals 2-1.
The day of fun culminated with Okahao Veterans FC beating Seabe Masters FC in the finals, at the scoreline of 3-1.
