Members of the police and other government departments converged on Bela-Bela’s crime hotspot, Extension 5.
Bela-Bela station commander, Colonel Abel Phetla said the objective of the operation was aimed to tackle social ills such as crime and substance abuse.
He said this is in line with the launch of 16 days of activism campaign against the abuse of women and children.
The initiative kicked off at Sunfa Stadium on Wednesday 27 November, followed by a door-to-door campaign.
Representatives from the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Victim Empowerment Programme and various SAPS units formed part of the teams.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Frans Maponya said the aim of the door-to-door campaign was to encourage citizens to break the silence against crime, also sensitizing them about various scams,
especially during the festive season.
The teams further advised the visited community members to spend money wisely this festive season and be alert at all times.
The events were then followed by distribution of pamphlets in town.
