Housebreaking at Bela-Bela Post Office

Mail packages to the value of R1 800 were stolen from Bela-Bela Post Office following a weekend break-in.

Mail packages to the value of R1 800 were stolen from Bela-Bela Post Office following a weekend break-in.

Bela-Bela police spokesperson, Sergeant Frans Maponya, said postal workers arrived on Monday 20 January, to find the premises ransacked, and in a state of chaos.

He said the police were summoned.

Maponya said the workers reported that they had found the back dispatch door broken, with mail packages totalling R1 800 missing.

“I can confirm that a case of housebreaking and theft has been opened, and that the police are investigating,” he said.

Maponya said because the post office was closed for business at midday on Saturday 18 January, the housebreaking had taken place sometime over the weekend.

The burglary at the post office is the fourth break-in in recent years.
