The community of Bela-Bela on Monday 2 July continued to reel with shock after a boyfriend allegedly throttled his girlfriend to death, and then hanged himself.
Bela-Bela Detectives Commander, Lieuitenant-Colonel Abel Phetla, said aspirant businessman, Steven Baloyi (33), and his girlfriend, Kate Makhopela (36), passed away last Friday 29 June at around 16:30.
The news of the couple’s death sent shockwaves throughout social media, with many expressing shock at the whole saga.
Phetla said the police were notified about the incident at Sesolong section, and on investigation discovered the bodies of the couple, with Baloyi’s body hanging from the rafters, and
Makhopela’s on the ground with a legging around her neck.
Phetla said a case of murder was being investigated, although post mortem results would determine future investigations.
