Several high schools’ soccer teams were scheduled to battle it out in the coveted Kay Mostepe Cup.

Soccer teams in the Warmbaths (Bela-Bela) schools’ circuit were scheduled to start the campaign mid-week, with the overall winners proceeding to enter the Waterberg regional knockout stages.

The schools’ soccer teams taking part in the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Cup in Bela-Bela are Ulando Combined School, Maope High School, Raeleng Secondary School, Vingerkraal High School,

Hoërskool Warmbad and Bela Bela Soccer Academy (Bela-Bela High School).

The schools’ teams were scheduled to play the preliminary elimination stages at Bela-Bela High School Stadium.

The preliminary stages of the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Cup were won by the Bela-Bela Soccer Academy last year.

The team proceeded to emerge victorious at Waterberg district level, but was unfortunately knocked out at provincial level.

Bela-Bela Soccer Academy head coach, Sam Modise, said the boys were more than ready for the task ahead, with the objective to do better at provincial level, should the academy qualify.

The Sanlam Kay Motsepe Cup, hosted under the auspices of the South African Schools Football Association (SASFA), is the biggest schools football tournament in the country with prizemoney of
over R3-million.

The national winners take home R1-million prizemoney, with R600 000 set aside for the runners-up, and R500 000 for the team coming out third, and R400 000 for fourth place.
Provincial winners receive R100 000 in prizemoney.

The Sanlam Kay Motsepe Cup is an initiative co-funded by Sanlam, the Ubuntu-Botho Community Development Trust and the Motsepe Family Foundation.
