ANC and DA differ on new MECs

The Limpopo province of the ANC has welcomed the appointment of two new MECs, while the DA viewed the move as a non-event.
Limpopo DA leader, Jaques Smalle said Premier Stanley Mathabatha’s cabinet reconfiguration was “nothing more than an exercise in promoting those close to him”, and that the move would not
bring change to the lives of the people.
The party was particularly scathing with regards to the appointment of Modimolle’s Thandi Moraka, charging she had failed to attend legislature sittings over a period of two years.
Mathabatha appointed Moraka as the new MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture, following the controversial resignation of Onica Moloi.
Masikopo Makamu was appointed MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, to replace the late Joyce Mashamba.
“Moraka’s absence in the legislature proves that she will still prioritize her duties within the ANC Youth League and fail to execute her duties as the new MEC in this struggling department,” Smalle said.
To the contrary, the ANC in Limpopo welcomed the new MECs appointment, saying the party was confident that the twosome would add value in the government’s endeavour to improve the lives of the people.
“Their appointment serves as undeniable testimony that the ANC Youth League is indeed a preparatory school for the country’s future leaders. They both were nurtured and groomed within the
Youth League structures,” said the ANC Limpopo Provincial spokesperson, Donald Selamolela.
