Hope as Spar rises from ashes

The BEAT also touched base with Carel Coetzee of Bela-Bela SuperSpar, whose business premises were being reconstructed following another blaze at the old store last September.

Coetzee said at the completion of the reconstruction of the new “smaller” Spar outlet, some of the previous workers would be given priority, over newer applicants.

He said a total of 148 workers lost their jobs at Bela-Bela’s Spar, following the destruction of the store by a fire outbreak last September.

The broader community was at the time also nudged to help.
