Mookgophong funnyman Multi B (real name Hendrick Morerwa) has done it again, snatching the Independent National Gospel Music Awards (Ingoma) accolade for the second year running.
The awards were held in the Johannesburg cultural precinct of Newtown on Sunday 30 September.
Just like last year Multi B was nominated in the Best Gospel Comedian category, and those who admire his work were not disappointed.
The category winner was decided by the judging panel, but also influenced by the number of votes received from the public by SMS.
The 27-year-old comedian said he got inspired by humour while he was still at school, where he shared jokes with friends and teammates at his soccer club.
“When I found redemption in 2018, I had to come up with a plan to continue doing what I love in a manner that is acceptable in the church,” he said.
He said Gospel Comedy is inspired by everyday stories from church and also derived from the Christian Bible.
“Gospel comedy is not offensive or derogatory,” he told The BEAT.
The comedian hosted his first ever show in 2013 at Mookgophong’s community hall, and the locals responded overwhelmingly.
Multi B thanked everyone who voted for him, as they played a crucial role in making sure that the award is brought home.
He took the opportunity to plead with the people of Mookgophong to support local talent, be it in soccer, art or any form of entertainment.
