A total of 150 learners from Vaalwater received their certificates after going through a theoretical and practical skills training programme last year.
A total of 150 learners from Vaalwater received their certificates after going through a theoretical and practical skills training programme last year.
The graduation ceremony took place in Modimolle on Tuesday 7 May, on the occasion of the launch of another programme targeted to benefit 500 young people.
The young people first attended classes and then later went through a workshop in bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, plumbing, tiling and roofing.
The programme was made possible by the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training.
As part of their training, the graduates built toilets at Reahlahlwa Primary School outside Vaalwater.
The ablution facilities were officially unveiled by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela, earlier this year.
Learners at the school had been relying on pit toilets ever since the farmlands school was built in 1974.
At the time of the official unveiling in February, acting CEO of CETA, Robert Semenya, said an amount of about R4-million was invested to complete the project.
Speaking at the launch in Modimolle, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Manamela, commended the young people for their commitment towards the success of the project at
Reahlahlwa Primary School.
Manamela said the imminent success of the recently launched learnership programme had the potential to send a positive message to all involved stakeholders, and encourage them to re-invest in
the community of Modimolle-Mookgophong in the foreseeable future.
