Goldrush recently announced the Bela-Bela School Shoes Project.
As part of this project Goldrush Gaming, Slots and Entertainment in Bela-Bela will distribute 2 500 pairs of school shoes to disadvantaged and vulnerable children in the region. The distribution will occur over a period of three months.
Phase one of the School Shoe distribution project was implemented on Wednesday 29 May. The event included attendees such as the mayor of Bela-Bela, Jeremiah Ngobeni, principals of the
selected schools and partners such as Capitec, World Empowerment, Ignite Hope and Chesanyama.
Three schools were selected for phase one namely Raeleng, Modderspruit and Ulando. Research was conducted prior to implementation with the assistance of World Empowerment volunteers.
The objective was to ensure that the needs of the children are assessed to select the schools with children in dire need of school shoes.
School bags and socks were also included in phase one, a contribution that was made by partners Capitec, Ignite Hope and Chesanyama.
Mergan Naidoo, CEO of the Goldrush Group said: “The decision to donate shoes was an obvious choice for Goldrush. Considering the fact that many learners from disadvantaged communities walk long distances barefoot and if they do have shoes the shoes are torn. The new pairs of shoes are a way in which we restore the dignity of each child so they can walk to school in comfort”.
“Capitec encourages and supports employees in their quest to give back to communities. We are proud of our employees in Bela-Bela who choose to support learners with school essentials,” said Francois Vicers, Capitec marketing and communications executive.
The school principals of Modderspruit, Raeleng and Ulando Schools thanked Goldrush for the contribution which they believe will have a positive impact on the leaners.
Goldrush Foundation invests R3 to 4 million annually to diverse social investment initiatives in South Africa and also believes in collaborating with other corporates and reputable non-
Governmental Organisations whose mission it is to change South Africa for the better.
